Q. Who Is Eligible For Cover?

A. This travel Insurance is business travel insurance specially designed for BASI Members and BASI Associate Members. As such purchase of this cover is available only to the above categories of snowsports professionals. Members and Associate Members can, however, purchase Couple or Family cover for spouses, partners and immediate members of their family.

Q. How do you define a couple?

A. To be defined as a couple and so be able to take advantage of the lower joint travel insurance premiums, you have to have been cohabiting for at least 6 months. You do not have to be married (or indeed of differing sexes).

Q. Can people with a Couple or Family annual multi trip travel insurance policy travel independently?

A. Yes you can travel independently, though children will only be insured if they travel with and are accompanied by one of the insured adults. Minors must be accompanied by an insured adult.

Q. Can a Couple or Family buy a policy with Gap course extended cancellation cover?

A.No. Extended cancellation cover is only available for individuals. Courses are booked per individual and must be covered as such.

Q. Can a Couple or Family extend the period of winter sports cover cover?

A. No. There is no underwriting facility to provide extended winter sports cover for families or couples.

Q. Am I covered for any pre-existing medical conditions?

A. First of all, in brief, we can usually help most people with a Pre-existing Medical Condition but you should declare it before you buy your cover otherwise you will not be covered by any claim relating to your known pre-existing condition. So don't be afraid to pick up the phone and call the help line on 01732 853088.

Now here's the information in detail:
As we've mentioned above, you can declare Pre-existing Medical Conditions by contacting our medical screening helpline on 01732 853088. All travel insurance companies require the policyholder to disclose any material fact that may influence them in their decision to accept or decline a risk. When obtaining a quotation please read all the terms and conditions which will guide you through the simple process.

This insurance operates on the following basis:

  • To be covered, You must be healthy, fit to travel and to undertake Your planned Trip;
  • The insurance will NOT cover You when You are traveling against the advice of a Medical Practitioner (or would be traveling against the advice of a Medical Practitioner had You sought his/her advice);
  • The insurance will NOT cover You when You are traveling with the intention of obtaining medical treatment or consultation abroad.
  • The insurance will NOT cover You if You have any undiagnosed symptoms that require attention or investigation in the future (that is symptoms for which You are awaiting investigations/consultations, or awaiting results of investigations, where the underlying cause has not been established)

No claim arising directly or indirectly from a Pre-existing Medical Condition affecting You will be covered unless:

  • You have declared ALL Pre-existing Medical Conditions to Us; and
  • You have declared any changes in Your health or prescribed medication; and
  • We have accepted the condition(s) for insurance in writing.

For the purposes of this insurance a Pre-existing Medical Condition is considered to be any serious or recurring medical condition which has been diagnosed previously, investigated or treated in any way, at any time prior to travel, even if this condition is currently considered to be stable and under control.

Q. What should I do if taken ill oversees?

A. Contact the Emergency Medical Assistance company stated on the policy. Their role is to guide and advise you and liaise with the treating doctors where appropriate. If you have to make any payments relating to sickness overseas remember to hold onto all the receipts as you'll need these when making a claim.

Q. Cancellation & Curtailment

Q. Do I have Cancellation or Curtailment cover?.
A. BASI insurance features cancellation and curtailment cover up to £5,000 as standard. For people travelling to a Gap course, cover for course fees and travel can be extended to £7,500 or £10,000 depending on the level of cover you require.

Q. Can I cancel my policy?

A. Yes, all our policies carry a cooling off period of up to 14 days after purchase as long as you have not yet travelled or a claim incident has occurred.

Q. Duration Of Cover

Q. How long can I get cover for?
A
. BASIS Members' Insurance is Worldwide Annual Multi-Trip travel insurance cover. The standard cover provides cover for travel throughout the year and also provides snowsports professionals with 180 days of winter sports cover. An Individual can extend the period of winter sports cover for the rest of the insured year for additional cost. This winter sports cover extension is not available to couples or families.

Q. What is the maximum length of any one trip I can take on an Annual Multi-trip policy?

. The insurance provides cover for Winter Sports of up to 180 days as standard with the option (for individuals only) to extend this. Outwith the winter sports period of cover, the maximum trip duration is 31 days.

Q. When does cover commence with an annual multi-trip policy?
A
. When you purchase BASI travel insurance policy you will be asked to specify a start date and until that date you will not have any cover. If you are leaving on a trip in say one month's time and wish to have cancellation cover etc then set your travel insurance policy to start the day you purchase the policy.

Q. How do I buy BASI Members' Insurance?
A. You can only buy BASI Members Insurance on line. You will have arrived at this site via the BASI Members area on the BASI website. This route has been put in place so that only BASI members and Associate Members area bale to buy. Consequently, there is no telesales service at the underwriter's sales desk, only a help and advice line. As you will understand, the underwriters do not have access to BASI Membership database and are unable to verify membership credentials over the phone.

Q. Do I need a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)?
A. Yes if you're going to be working in the EU. It is a stipulation of the BASI's arrangement with underwriters that Members possess an EHIC and this element has been a key to delivering such competitive rates. The EHIC allows underwriters to mitigate the costs of medical treatment within the EU. Click HERE to apply; it's easy and it's free.

Q. What is Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) and is it included?
A. IPT is set by the government and is currently 17.5% applied to the selling price of all insurance policies including travel insurance.

A. Unfortunately, like VAT you have no option but to pay IPT and as such our quotes already include it.

Q. Which countries are excluded from your policies?

A. In the wake of current middle east affairs and health situations there may be heightened tension and some disruption to travel world-wide. All travelers must take into consideration the advice of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

You are not covered under any section of the policy if your travel is to an area where the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has advised against 'all travel'. If you are not sure whether there is a warning for your destination, please check with:

Q. What do I do if I am traveling with valuables?
A
. Our policies carry single item limits for valuables up to £200 mark, so please ensure that you have appropriate cover for your valuables under your household contents insurance prior to departing. When in resort use the safety deposit box or safe in room for any valuables, cameras, passports, money etc.

Q. What is meant by 'taking reasonable care'?
A
.With any insurance, the policyholder should always act as though he has no insurance at all and take all measures to protect their property and themselves.

Q. My Rights

Q. Can I cancel my policy?
A. Yes, all our policies carry a cooling off period of 14 days after purchase provided you have not yet travelled.

Q. If I have a complaint, where do I go?
A
. We aim to provide both parties with a first class policy and service. However, there may be times when you feel we have not done so. If this is the case, please tell us about it so that we can do our best to solve the problem. If either party make a complaint your legal rights will not be affected.
